Anya & Scott Grivner
Recipe Resizer was created by husband-and-wife team Scott and Anya Grivner, the duo behind the software development and design company Night Owl Labs. In 2023, Scott—who has a background in software engineering and mobile apps—asked Anya if there were any everyday problems she'd like to see solved with an app. Anya, a classically trained chef who’s worked in one of New York City’s top kitchens, didn’t hesitate: most recipe apps simply multiply servings without truly resizing ingredients in a way that makes sense in real life.
That conversation sparked a project they built together from the ground up. Anya, who also has a design background, led the visual design, while she and Scott collaborated on the overall user experience. Scott focused on programming and making sure the app worked the way real people would expect it to. Over time, it grew—from a smart resizer into something more complete, with features like a web recipe importer and a dedicated area called Learn, which provides helpful cooking tips and advice. The Learn feature was Anya’s idea to help home cooks feel more confident in the kitchen. Features like this set Recipe Resizer apart from typical recipe managers—putting it in a category of its own by blending practical cooking guidance with approachable design.
Many recipe apps are overly technical or feel sterile, missing the warmth and coziness of a real kitchen. Recipe Resizer was designed to feel inviting and intuitive—like a tool you’d want by your side while cooking, not just another app on your phone. It was made to feel simple, smart, and enjoyable to use—because it was made by people who actually use it. It’s a tool shaped by real kitchen needs, thoughtful design, and two people who care deeply about getting it right.
